DNA Subway Transition Plan
DNA Subway has been a trusted platform for analyzing genomic data in the classroom. However, the technology supporting the current site is based on outdated software and services that can no longer be maintained. As a result, security vulnerabilities and system failures will make it impossible to continue operating the existing site. To address these challenges and deliver a modernized experience, we are excited to announce the development of DNA Subway 2.0.
Transition Overview
With the support of the National Science Foundation, the transition to DNA Subway 2.0 will begin immediately. The new platform will initially focus on the Blue Line, providing enhanced support for Sanger and nanopore sequencing. Other lines will be phased in later in the year, offering comprehensive functionality for researchers and educators.
The current DNA Subway site will remain operational until June 30, 2025, after which it will be retired. Users will be notified about key timepoints and milestones in the transition process through the email associated with their accounts. Notifications will include:
- Instructions for exporting data
- Opportunities to participate in alpha and beta testing for DNA Subway 2.0
- Final reminders about the availability of the current site
We appreciate your patience and support as we work to improve the DNA Subway platform and ensure it remains a valuable resource for genomic analysis.
